Snit Tewoldemedhin: The Miss Universe Hopeful on a Mission to Empower Eritrea and Africa’s Future Generations
On March 11, 2023, Snit Tewoldemedhin stepped onto the stage as a contestant and a voice for change. A student and advocate, she dreams of a world where all children are empowered. Voting for Snit means supporting a vision for inclusion, unity, and opportunity for all.
On March 11, 2023, a tall, elegant young Eritrean woman, Snit Tewoldemedhin, walked onto the stage at the ECCC DC, dressed in a stunning blue gown that radiated strength and purpose. This moment wasn’t just about beauty or pageantry for Snit. It was a platform, a stepping stone in a journey that began years earlier, fueled by her commitment to serve others and an unwavering devotion to her Eritrean roots.
Snit, an Eritrean American senior studying neuroscience, moved to the Metro DC area four years ago. She balanced her rigorous studies with a meaningful role as a teacher in a Montessori Preschool. Her motivation for working with children runs deep—her younger sister has Down syndrome and a learning disability, instilling in Snit a drive to create a world where all children, regardless of ability, are nurtured and empowered. Her role model, Maria Montessori, inspires her; Montessori used her medical background to develop educational methods and toys for children with special needs. Snit dreams of building an educational environment that caters to children with disabilities, where accessible and adapted curricula inspire confidence and resilience.
The steps forward on this pageant journey, Snit’s ambitions reach far beyond the stage. She dreams of establishing a school headquartered in Africa, with branches worldwide, where children with disabilities can thrive. This school will not only embrace an inclusive curriculum but will also incorporate the values of peace and community, teaching children to become confident, peace-oriented leaders. She envisions it as a beacon of possibility for all Africans, particularly those in the diaspora—showing them that it’s possible to get educated at home, contribute to Africa's future, and help build a foundation for a united, empowered continent.
Across the world, Eritreans are rallying around her, contributing, sharing, voting, and waging major campaigns to lift her up. The excitement and support from the Eritrean community highlight the Eritrea-United spirit and a resilient, winning attitude despite obstacles from detractors. This collective energy is a testament to Eritrea’s strength, unity, and pride, as Eritreans come together to elevate Snit’s platform on the global stage.
Fluent in Italian, English, and Tigrigna, and with intermediate proficiency in Amharic and French, Snit bridges cultures and languages. Her passion extends beyond academics and advocacy—she’s also a skilled basketball and tennis player and a salsa dancer, embodying a love of life and community.
To vote for Snit is to support a woman on a profound mission. She isn’t just representing Eritrea; she’s representing every young African who dreams of giving back and building a legacy of unity, opportunity, and peace. Her journey is proof that with faith, community, and a clear vision, one person’s mission can indeed move mountains.
Congratulations, Snit. Your courage and dedication inspire us all. May your journey on the Miss Universe stage bring you closer to the dream you hold for a better, more inclusive world. With the support of Eritreans, Africans, and all who believe in you, this vision will come to life.
